Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services Community Hub – central Geelong

Location 181 Moorabool Street, Geelong, Victoria, 3220, Australia

The Victorian Government is investing $16 million to deliver a Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services Community Hub in central Geelong.

The five-storey hub will provide greater access to treatment and support services for members of the community experiencing mental-ill health and addiction.

With extended operating hours, including over the weekend and public holidays, services offered at the hub will include assessment, care planning, treatment, wellbeing support, and education.

The hub will also include space for clinicians and researchers to come together and drive mental health service improvement through a learning health care system.

This investment builds on the work of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System’s 74 recommendations to transform mental health support and care to make it accessible, flexible and responsive.

Located on Moorabool Street in Geelong, the five-storey facility will include:

  • a welcoming ‘unified front door’ where consumers and carers can engage with peers, lived experience support staff and clinicians
  • multiple options for treatment and care services
  • a supportive, fit-for-purpose environment for clinicians working in the facility and providing outreach services.

The Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services Community Hub project in central Geelong aims to achieve the following benefits:

Care and support under the one roof

Members of the community experiencing mental ill health and addiction will have convenient local access to the services they need to recover and stay well under one roof.

Improved health outcomes for the community

Better access to mental health services closer to home will help more people access the care and treatment they need – leading to better health outcomes.

Improved staff amenities

Clinicians will work in contemporary, fit-for-purpose facilities so that they can undertake their work effectively, efficiently and safely.

Research

The hub will include space for clinicians and researchers to come together and drive mental health service improvement through a learning health care system.

Jobs for Victorians

The project is expected to create and sustain approximately 48 construction industry jobs.

This project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with:

  • Barwon Health
  • Lyons Construction.
