Construction begins on new mental health and drug and alcohol hub in Geelong
Construction has started on a new $16 million Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services Community Hub in Geelong.
Located in Moorabool Street, Geelong, the five-storey hub will provide greater access to treatment and support services for community members experiencing mental ill health and addiction.
The hub will consolidate existing services onto one site with extended operating hours including weekends and public holidays. Clinicians working in this contemporary and safe facility will be available for telephone, online, walk-in, at-home, and outreach services.
Operated by Barwon Health, services will include assessment, navigation, care planning, treatment, wellbeing support, and education. The facility will also include space for clinicians and researchers to collaborate to improve mental health outcomes across the region.
Geelong-based, Lyons Construction, will build the new facility which is expected to be completed in late 2022.
The 2021-22 Victorian State Budget is investing $3.8 billion towards decade-long mental health reform, building on the work of the final report from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
