Survey for Eltham area Community Hospital now closed

Please note: VHBA’s community survey on the Eltham area Community Hospital’s preferred location is now closed.

Original article:

An online survey is now open for the local community to have their say on the Eltham area Community Hospital.

The Eltham area Community Hospital is an important piece of health infrastructure that will provide a range of ‘everyday’ health services for people who are not critically unwell.

Council-owned land at the Nillumbik Council Facilities Complex, Greensborough, has been identified as the preferred location for the Eltham area Community Hospital. Should this site be confirmed, the facility will link with existing community services and add to the vibrant community precinct.

Your views are important to us and we are committed to keeping you up to date as the project progresses.

Community feedback received up to June 2021 has shaped the service design and early service planning phase of the project.

We’re now seeking feedback on any priorities and issues we need to consider in planning your community hospital on this site. We would also like to understand your expectations and any concerns and benefits in relation to how we design your community hospital.

Share your views before submissions close on 31 August 2021 to help shape your Eltham area Community Hospital.

About the project

The Victorian Government is investing $675 million to build 10 community hospitals in or near major growth areas, including the Eltham area.

The Eltham area Community Hospital will be a small public hospital providing a range of day hospital and primary health care services including:

  • unplanned urgent care
  • general medical and specialist appointments
  • pharmacy
  • women’s health
  • social support
  • paediatric care
  • pathology and imaging
  • public dental
  • chronic disease management
  • mental health
  • alcohol and other drug support
  • dialysis
  • day surgery
  • day chemotherapy
  • allied health and rehabilitation
  • family safety and crisis support.

The facility will help take pressure off nearby major hospitals, including the Austin Hospital, and enable more people to manage their health needs closer to home. Strong links to specialists, community health providers and social support services will ensure more seamless follow-up treatment and support for those who require complex care.

Next steps

The Victorian Health Building Authority will provide a report capturing the online survey results and community feedback to the Nillumbik Shire Council for consideration in October 2021, as part of the Council’s broader community consultation process on whether to sell the land to the Victorian Government.
