The Mildura Base Hospital intensive care unit expansion aimed to achieve the following benefits:
Efficiency and access, closer to home
The expansion project was designed to support the hospital to improve patient flow and reduce waiting times. This means that local patients can access quality intensive care, closer to home.
Flexibility
The expansion of the intensive care unit can enable greater flexibility between intensive care, high dependency and coronary care specialties. The unit also now has better capacity to provide high quality coronary care.
Largest grant program of its kind
The Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, which includes the Aged Care Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. The $490 million fund enables rural and regional public health and residential aged care services to invest in modern infrastructure and equipment to continue providing safe and efficient care to local communities.
