Icon has been appointed to deliver the expansion, marking a major milestone in boosting emergency care for families across Melbourne’s south-east.
The expanded emergency department at Casey Hospital in Berwick is part of the government’s $280 million investment to boost emergency department capacity at both Casey Hospital and Werribee Mercy Hospital.
New facilities include:
- immediate care cubicles
- short stay beds
- resuscitation bays
- ambulatory care spaces
- procedure rooms
- consult/interview rooms
- dedicated children’s zone
- dedicated mental health zone
- satellite imaging.
The project will increase the hospital’s emergency capacity, supporting the treatment of an extra 52,000 presentations each year. Improving patient flow, safety and quality of patient care.
What’s next
Enabling works to prepare the site will begin soon, followed by major construction with completion expected in 2027.
The Casey and Werribee expansions are expected to create more than 1,000 jobs during construction.
