Small household design

Each resident will have their own private room with an ensuite bathroom. Rooms are grouped into small households with their own kitchen, dining, lounge and sitting areas. Creating a more personal and familiar setting.

The building is spread across two levels and includes shared spaces such as a café, hair salon, community room, and reflection room. This gives residents and their families common areas to connect with one another.

Dementia-friendly features

The dementia-friendly design of the multi-million-dollar facility creates a setting that promotes dignity and independence so residents can ‘age in place’.

With around half of all residents in aged care facilities living with dementia, the new facility was carefully designed with these needs in mind. This includes:

  • using colours and shapes that help guide residents naturally
  • creating easy-to-navigate spaces that reduce confusion and support independence.

Carefully considered outdoor spaces

The design of the aged care facility also considered the positive impact green spaces has on physical and mental wellbeing.

Open area views and an abundance of natural light make the aged care facility feel like home.

Revitalising regional and rural aged care

The Camperdown aged care facility is part of the Victorian Government’s Regional and Rural Public Sector Aged Care Revitalisation Strategy to modernise ageing facilities.

By updating existing aged care facilities and building new ones in regional and rural areas, older Victorians can access the care they need, closer to home.
