Community speaks on Frankston Hospital redevelopment

A report capturing the community’s ideas, suggestions and priorities for the Frankston Hospital redevelopment was released today to assist shortlisted bidders as they prepare proposals for the new facility.

Access to more green spaces, the importance of natural light, improved wayfinding, and better access for car parking and pedestrians were just some of the things we heard from the community during the consultation process.

The report also captures feedback on public spaces, amenities, cultural safety, and the community’s aspirations for a welcoming and inclusive hospital.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the community was primarily engaged through an online survey and consultation process. Further feedback was sought through discussion sessions with:

  • Aboriginal health representatives,
  • people with a lived experience of mental illness, and
  • Peninsula Health volunteers.

The report has been shared with the three bidders shortlisted to deliver the redevelopment, providing an opportunity for the community’s ideas to be reflected in their proposals.

With a better understanding of the community’s priorities, bidders will have the best chance of delivering a bigger, better Frankston Hospital that represents the community it serves.

The $562 million redevelopment will transform services at Frankston Hospital – delivering a multi-level tower, new main entrance, capacity for 120 additional beds, new operating theatres, and dedicated areas for enhanced mental health and oncology services.

The redevelopment will also deliver changes to the emergency department and expanded maternity and women’s services.

What’s next?

Detailed bidder proposals are due later this year. We are on track to appoint a successful consortium in early 2022, with construction to commence shortly after. The redevelopment is expected to be operational in 2025.
