A dedicated children’s emergency department for Maroondah Hospital

A joint $20 million investment will deliver a dedicated children’s emergency department at Maroondah Hospital.

Hospitals can often be a daunting place for children, and the new emergency department will be specifically designed to provide a dedicated, calming space for families.

Early design works are underway to relocate the current emergency department administration area.

A specialist team will develop the design to create a dedicated space on the hospital’s ground floor where children can be triaged separately, with enclosed spaces that create a low stimulus environment which minimises noise.

This project is part of the Victorian Government’s $102.4 million program to deliver new children’s emergency departments across Victoria. The Commonwealth Government has also contributed to the project at Maroondah Hospital.

The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Eastern Health.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2027.
