Main works have started on the more than $900 million new Melton Hospital.
Workers are busy on-site as foundation works start to progress, including bulk excavation of rock and soil and trenching for underground services to be installed.
Over the next six months, the site will see:
- bulk excavation works continue
- piling get underway
- retaining walls established
- concrete pours for the foundations of the new hospital
- the first tower crane arriving later this year.
Construction is on track for completion in 2029.
About your new Melton Hospital
The brand-new hospital will support the growing and diverse communities of Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Melton, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne.
The new Melton Hospital will include:
- a 24-hour emergency department
- at least 274 beds
- an intensive care unit
- maternity and neonatal services
- mental health services, radiology services and ambulatory care
- a new education and training hub for doctors and nurses in Melbourne’s west.
Once completed, it will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department.
At 68,000 square metres, the site of the new hospital is more than three times the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The size of the site means more potential to nearly double capacity over time and grow with the community.
