2024-25 round of the Medical Equipment Replacement Program now open
We’ve opened the latest round of the Medical Equipment Replacement Program.
We invite health services from across Victoria to apply for a share in $35 million funding as part of the 2024-25 round.
About the Medical Equipment Replacement Program (MERP)
The MERP is now worth $315 million overall. The program provides government funding for new, essential medical equipment for acute services in public hospitals.
The program aims to improve safety and reliability of our public hospitals. This helps to:
- reduce risks to patients and healthcare workers
- improve clinical service availability.
Funding is also available to upgrade equipment at Statewide Public Health Reference Laboratories.
What types of equipment are funded?
Examples of equipment funded under the program are:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines
- microscopes
- digital X-Ray units
- computed tomography (CT) scanners
- heart imaging equipment.
Previously funded projects
Projects previously funded through the MERP include:
- more than $1.85 million to enable Western Health to update the CT scanner at Sunshine Hospital
- more than $1.9 million for a new Fluoroscopy unit and MRI scanner at Northeast Health Wangaratta
- more than $1 million to replace an outdated CT scanner with state-of-the-art technology at Ballarat Base Hospital.
