Warrnambool Base Hospital: major construction and new designs

Major construction is now underway on the $396.1 million redevelopment of the Warrnambool Base Hospital.

Over the coming months works will ramp up and the new clinical services building on Timor Street will begin to take shape.

Most of these works will focus on the construction of the foundations and ground level of the new building including:

  • earthworks
  • piling works
  • concrete pours
  • installation of pre-cast concrete panels
  • preparation for tower crane installation
  • general construction activities.

Hansen Yuncken will continue to deliver main works on the site now that early works are complete. Crews have completed extensive early works and demolition to prepare the site for major construction.

New designs revealed

Designs for the bigger, better Warrnambool Base Hospital have also been unveiled. Revealing a modern, welcoming hospital environment for locals in south-west Victoria.

The outside draws inspiration from the local limestone landscape. Inside, there will be more natural light for patients, staff and visitors.

The new multi-storey clinical services building will transform services, delivering:

  • a bigger, modern emergency department
  • new operating theatres
  • a 32-bed inpatient unit adding 22 more beds than the current hospital
  • a dedicated 10-paedriatic unit
  • modern dialysis facilities and a medical imaging zone.

The redevelopment will create around 800 jobs during construction. Providing a boost to the local economy.
