Maffra aged care facility

Location 48 Kent Street, Maffra, Victoria, 3860, Australia

The Victorian Government is investing $69.7 million to build new aged care facility in Maffra.

Operated by Central Gippsland Health, the new facility will replace the JHF McDonald Wing, and the Residential Aged Care Wing currently located within the hospital.

Each resident in the new facility will have a single bedroom and private ensuite, promoting dignity, privacy and independence.

The project is part of the Victorian Government's 'Better Aged Care for Regional Victorians' strategy, which will build new or transform existing residential aged care facilities that better meet community expectations and promote resident independence, dignity and mental health.

Construction is underway and on track to be completed in 2028.

FLEXIBLE SHARED SPACES

The project will deliver:

  • a new, 30-bed residential aged care facility:
    • single rooms with private ensuites
    • flexible shared spaces and common areas including a reflection room, café, hairdressing salon, and art room
    • carefully considered outdoor areas
    • features to support a range of complex care needs and mobility, including those living with dementia.
  • a new commercial kitchen, staff amenities and energy centre
  • a refurbishment of the current JHF McDonald Wing and Residential Aged Care Wing to create a new Allied Health and Community Wellness Centre.

The new Maffra aged care facility aims to achieve the following benefits:

Specialist care

The new residential aged care facility will improve access to high quality facilities and care. It will meet a range of complex needs so residents can age in place as their health needs increase.

A home-like environment

Residents will have improved privacy and independence with single rooms and ensuites. Flexible shared spaces within the design will give residents options – from socialising with other residents, visitors and family members to simply sitting on their own.

Safe living and working conditions

The new facility will benefit both staff and residents with better and safer living and working conditions.

Closer to home

Greater access to high-quality care in Maffra means older people won’t have to move away to access care. Residents will be close to their support networks and will be able to maintain family and community connections.

New construction jobs

At the peak of construction, the redevelopment is expected to create and sustain more than 200 construction industry jobs.

This project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with:

  • Central Gippsland Health
  • Hames Sharley and Bamford-Architects
  • SJ Higgins.
