Yarram Integrated Healthcare Centre

Location 85 Commercial Road, Yarram, Victoria, 3971, Australia

The Victorian Government invested $4 million to build the new Yarram Integrated Health Centre.

The centre brings together a range of community health services under one roof, including allied health, community support, general practitioner services, mental health and pathology services.

The $5.93 million project was made possible via $4 million contribution from Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF) and $1.93 million from Yarram and District Health Service.

The $490 million fund is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. It provides vital government funding to rural and regional public health and residential aged care services across Victoria. This funding enables these services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

FACILITIES

The Yarram Integrated Health Care Centre was partially funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund. The centre includes:

  • eight consulting rooms
  • three treatment bays
  • six interview rooms
  • a parents’ room.

The Yarram Integrated Healthcare Centre project aimed to achieve the following benefits:

Waiting areas suitable for people of all abilities and ages

The creation of a central reception and waiting areas means patients receive a 'one stop shop' experience, now universally accepted as best practice.

Recruitment and retention of health professionals

The new centre was designed to enhance clinical collaboration, providing flexible and modern facilities for doctors and medical professionals to treat patients. This has created a better work environment, supporting long-term plans for the recruitment and retention of clinical staff.

Care closer to home

The new facility brings services under one roof, so residents of Yarram do not have to travel to access different health services. Telehealth technology has also been incorporated into the design, so locals can have appointments with specialists in other hospitals or medical facilities, without having to travel.

New model of care

This project has allowed the health service to introduce a new model of care (including telehealth). By co-locating primary care services at one location, a multidisciplinary approach can be delivered for patients. This allows for shared care plans, more holistic approaches and telehealth options.

Funding for this project was administered by the Victorian Health Building Authority through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

This project was delivered by Yarram and District Health Service in partnership with:

  • McBride Charles Ryan (architect)
  • TS Constructions.
