- four new resuscitation bays
- 36 emergency care cubicles
- eight fast track bays
- 16 short stay beds
- six mental health, alcohol and other drugs spaces
- consult/interview rooms
- behavioural assessment room
- separate but co-located paediatric and acute and short stay zones.
Benefits
The Werribee Mercy Hospital emergency department expansion aims to achieve the following benefits:
More capacity
The expansion of the Werribee Mercy Hospital emergency department aims to meet the needs of the growing population in Melbourne’s outer west. The expansion will allow more people to be treated while improving patient flow, safety and quality of care.
Emergency care
The project will deliver an extra 34 points of care, providing capacity for over 25,000 more emergency department presentations every year. This doubles current capacity.
Improved staff and patient safety
New treatment spaces will improve patient care in the hospital emergency department while also supporting a safer and more efficient working environment for staff.
More jobs
The project is expected to create and sustain more than 300 construction industry jobs. This is in addition to the permanent health sector jobs required to operate the expanded emergency department.
Partners
The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority and Mercy Health in partnership with Lyons Architecture and Besix Watpac (builder).
