2025 construction progress on the new Melton Hospital

Construction is progressing well on the new Melton Hospital with around 150 workers now on-site each day.

Excavation of soil and rock is continuing and piling works are on track to finish by the end of the year – a significant milestone that makes sure the foundations are ready for structural works to start.

Three of six tower cranes have gone up. The remaining cranes will be installed by end of March 2026.

Since main construction works began in July 2025, there has been:

  • 38,000 cubic metres of soil and rock excavated
  • 700+ piles installed deep into the ground
  • 7 lower ground concrete slabs poured
  • 700+ workers inducted to the site
  • 112,152 hours worked on-site
  • 2 kilometres of pipework installed inground.

About your new Melton Hospital

The new hospital will support the growing and diverse communities of Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Melton, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne.

The Melton Hospital will include:

  • a 24-hour emergency department
  • at least 274 beds
  • an intensive care unit
  • maternity and neonatal services
  • mental health services
  • radiology services and ambulatory care.

Once completed, Melton Hospital will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department.
