The Victorian Health Building Authority has appointed Lyons as the principal architect for stages two and three of the $541.6 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment. LCI have been appointed as the principal engineers.
Stage two will deliver a central energy plant, a new pharmacy and education and training facilities. Construction is expected to start in August 2022.
Stage three will deliver a multi-level hospital tower, which will include:
- new emergency department
- women and children’s hub
- state-of-the-art theatre suite
- 100 extra inpatient and short stay beds.
Construction will start in 2024.
A new and expanded critical care floor will house operating theatres, procedure rooms, an expanded intensive care unit, endoscopy suites and consulting rooms. This is expected to deliver capacity for an extra 4,000 surgeries every year.
Final designs for the project are expected to be released early 2022.
