Consortia shortlisted to deliver new Melton Hospital

Two consortia including construction companies, sponsors, and facilities management providers have been shortlisted to deliver the new Melton Hospital.

The shortlisted consortia are:

  • Exemplar Health, comprising Capella Capital, Lendlease, Honeywell and Compass Group
  • Wilam Marrga, comprising Tetris Capital, John Holland, ISS and Cushman & Wakefield

They have been invited to develop proposals to design, construct, finance and maintain the major public hospital for Melbourne’s booming outer west.

The final consortium will be announced in 2024. Construction is expected to begin shortly after. The new Melton Hospital is set to be completed in 2029.

Community engagement

Community feedback will help shape the development of the new hospital. Over 400 ideas have been captured through engagement with the New Melton Hospital Community Consultative Committee.

Community input was also gathered from online surveys, information sessions and workshops with key community groups. These groups include:

  • First Nations peoples
  • young families
  • seniors
  • carers
  • people with a lived and living experience of mental health.

A community consultation report, capturing all community input, will soon be released and provided to shortlisted consortia, with the opportunity to be reflected in the design and operation of the new hospital.

About the new Melton Hospital

The new Melton Hospital will be Victoria’s first fully electric hospital. It will treat more than 130,000 patients each year, including:

  • a 24-hour emergency department
  • an intensive care unit
  • more than 274 beds.

The new Melton Hospital is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Western Health.
