The first stage of construction on the Northern Hospital redevelopment is underway, with work starting on the new Ambulatory Care Centre.
The four-storey standalone building will be a hub for key services including:
- outpatient ambulatory services
- clinical and outpatient health services
- administration.
The second stage will deliver a new emergency department and inpatient unit on Cooper Street, including:
- a mental health and alcohol and other drugs hub
- paediatric treatment and waiting zone
- new inpatient beds.
Once complete, the redevelopment will increase the number of treatment spaces to almost 200 and support an extra 30,000 emergency patients every year.
This will ensure the hospital is able to deliver the best healthcare to Melbourne’s northern suburbs now and into the future.
Both stages of the redevelopment are set to create up to 2,200 jobs during construction.
