Point Cook Community Hospital on the way

Major construction is now underway on the Point Cook Community Hospital.

Delivering the infrastructure needed to deliver more everyday health services closer to home for families in Melbourne’s growing outer west.

Better access to care closer to home

Located at 140 Dunnings Road, a stone’s throw from Stockland Point Cook, the three-storey facility will be operated by Western Health.

With strong links to specialists, community health providers and social support services, the Point Cook Community Hospital will ensure patients who require more complex care can access seamless follow-up treatment and support.

It will also feature a 160-space multi-deck car park for staff, patients and visitors. The Point Cook Community Hospital is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Western Health and builder Lendlease.

Easing pressure on emergency departments

The Point Cook Community Hospital will help reduce demand on nearby major hospitals, including Footscray and Sunshine, ensuring their emergency departments can focus on patients who need the most urgent and complex care.

The more than $800 million Community Hospitals Program is building new facilities in growing areas such as Point Cook, Mernda and Pakenham, while expanding existing facilities at Craigieburn, Phillip Island and Sunbury.

Take a look at what the Point Cook Community Hospital will look like

The Point Cook Community Hospital has been designed to create a place for healing that fits right into the local community.

Design principles for this new facility were developed in collaboration with the Point Cook Community Hospital community consultative committee , which included representatives from Mercy Health, IPC Health, Western Health, Wyndham City Council and local community members.

Creating welcoming spaces was a key design priority identified by the community consultative committee , which influenced the selection of a calming colour palette and the inclusion of an accessible landscaped green space to welcome people to the facility.

The facility's positioning is designed to connect easily to the town centre, and the building’s flow prioritises accessibility and easy navigation. A single reception point, located in the same internal position on each level of the hospital, will help patients orient themselves and navigate during their visit.

Ensuring a connection to nature to help reduce stress and assist recovery emerged as another priority, and the design maximises natural light and views of the external landscape directly from dialysis treatment bays.

The design of the Point Cook Community Centre also responds to local environmental surroundings, including Skeleton Creek and the Cheetham Wetlands.

The colour tones of the wetlands are referenced in the material selection for the ground level and highlight colours for the interior spaces are inspired by the Orange-bellied Parrot, known to feed in the salt marsh in Point Cook.
