In August-September 2022, we asked the local community to have a say on key family spaces in the Warrnambool Base Hospital redevelopment.
We had a fantastic response to the survey, with 278 submissions. Community feedback has been shared with the project architect (Billard Leece Partnerships), with the opportunity for input to be reflected in the design.
A more detailed community consultation report, including insight into how your input has helped to shape this significant investment for Warrnambool and surrounding communities, will be shared in early 2023.

Community feedback: what’s working for you, and what isn’t?
What you already like about Warrnambool Base Hospital
We asked what you like about the existing hospital. Key themes we heard were:
- location
- high quality care
- friendly, knowledgeable staff
- facilities
- community feel.
What would improve your experience?
We asked how your experience at the hospital could be improved. Key themes we heard were:
- more car parking
- dedicated family spaces and comfortable waiting spaces
- shorter wait times
- access to open/outdoor spaces.
You would also like to see:
- better facilities/bigger hospital/more capacity
- improved emergency department.
- clearer wayfinding
- more natural light
- better food and drink
- improved accessibility.
Health services
We asked you to consider which health services at Warrnambool Base Hospital are most important to you and your family. This is what we heard.

When you first arrive at Warrnambool Base Hospital you told us you would like to see:

- comfortable seating
- greenery and plants
- open and connected spaces.
When asked what would help to make you feel more comfortable in waiting areas and family lounges at Warrnambool Base Hospital, you ranked the following five as most important:
- Having some personal space
- Access to food and drinks
- Access to outdoor areas adjacent to waiting rooms
- Having a space where your extended family can come together to create positive memories
- A range of different waiting areas
