Austin Hospital Emergency Department Upgrade reaches maximum height

Construction progress on the expanded Austin Hospital Emergency Department has marked a significant milestone, with the new three level building now reaching its full height.

The project will deliver add up to 29 extra emergency treatment spaces to the Austin Hospital.

Once open, these extra spaces will allow the doctors, nurses and medical staff of Austin Health to support an extra 30,000 emergency patients each year.

The upgrade will also deliver improved clinical administration areas, an upgraded short stay unit, a dedicated paediatric emergency department zone and expanded staff amenities, creating better services on site for patients, families and healthcare workers.

The next works will be to construct the hospital’s new plant deck, façade and interior fit-out.

The Austin Hospital and nearby Mercy Hospital for Women are remaining open and operational during construction, with the project delivery team working alongside the health services to minimise disruption.
