Grampians Health have opened expressions of interest for local artists to commission pieces for the $655 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment.
Artists with suitable experience are encouraged to apply for this major opportunity to have their works featured in one of Victoria’s biggest regional hospitals.
There are four packages seeking expressions of interest:
Package 1 - Environmental Graphics Photography
Open to all artists born or currently living on Wadawurrung Country.
The selected artist will provide photography for use across every level of the new hospital tower capturing themes relating to local fauna and flora.
Package 2 - Paediatric Zone Graphics
Open to all artists born or currently living on Wadawurrung Country.
The selected artist will produce works that are engaging for children of all ages, demonstrating imagination, gentle storytelling and quiet discovery.
Package 3A - Story of Country Artworks
Open to First Nations artists born or living on Wadawurrung Country.
The selected artist will produce six artworks inspired by Stories of Country, reflecting the themes of selected levels and educating visitors about the significance of local landscapes and culture.
Package 3B - Story of Country Artworks (Perinatal Floor)
Open to First Nations artists born or living on Wadawurrung Country.
The selected artist will produce one artwork, thoughtfully incorporating themes of birthing, new life and healing within a Woodland habitat context.

The Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment will deliver a new multi-level hospital tower, a new emergency department with an integrated mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub, a new helipad, a new women’s and children's hub and an extra 100 inpatient and short stay beds. Main construction is on track to finish in 2027.
