Builders appointed for youth mental health facility upgrades

Work is about to begin on important upgrades to existing youth prevention and recovery care (YPARC) centres in Bendigo, Dandenong and Frankston.

YPARC services provide treatment, care and support to young people aged 16 to 25 who are experiencing mental health challenges and/or psychological distress.

Bowden Corporation will upgrade existing YPARC centres in Dandenong and Frankston. Alchemy Construct will manage construction at the Bendigo YPARC centre.

The multi-million-dollar refurbishments in Bendigo and Dandenong will deliver:

  • new staff administration wings
  • refurbished bedrooms
  • upgrade external spaces, including courtyards.

In Frankston, the project will build a new family bedroom pod with a sensory garden. It also includes upgrades to:

  • bedrooms
  • amenities
  • external spaces, including the courtyard.

All three YPARC centres will remain operational while being refurbished. Construction has been planned to minimise the impact to patients, staff and families.

About the youth prevention and recovery care centre expansion and upgrade program

The YPARC centre expansion and upgrade program is a $141 million investment to deliver new and refurbished centres across the state.

The program is a response to key recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

It will more than double the capacity of the state’s current YPARC network with five new 10-bed centres to be built. The new centres will be located in:

  • Ballarat
  • Greater Geelong
  • Greater Shepparton
  • Heidelberg
  • Traralgon.
