Main works start on Monash Medical Centre Tower

Main works have started on the $535 million expansion of the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton.

Kane Constructions have been appointed to construct the new seven-storey medical tower, to be built above the recently expanded emergency department.

The new tower will feature operating theatres with pre-operative and post-operative recovery beds, a new intensive care unit and a new Central Sterile Services Department to improve efficiencies around medical equipment processing and delivery, meaning more people will get the surgery they need sooner.

The project will also deliver expanded maternity services, with new and upgraded birthing suites and maternity beds, allowing for thousands more births every year.

Newly release designs for the expansion unveil the look and feel of several key spaces including operating theatres, intensive care units, birthing suites and front of house waiting areas and lift lobbies.
