The Monash Medical Centre Tower expansion is taking shape as construction progresses, with the structure of the first two new levels of the project structurally complete.
The project will deliver a new seven-storey tower on top of the recently expanded emergency department at the Clayton facility. Once open, it will provide better care for families in Melbourne’s southeast.
The new medical tower will deliver operating theatres with pre-operative and post-operative recovery beds along with a new intensive care unit for the hospital’s sickest patients who require close monitoring and complex care.
As one of Victora’s busiest hospitals, expanded maternity services will mean new and upgrade birthing suites and maternity beds to support the growing local population.
A new Central Sterile Services Department will also improve efficiencies around medical equipment processing and delivery, meaning more people will get the surgery they need sooner.
Significant First Nations artwork will also form part of the Monash Medical Centre Tower Expansion, with artists now engaged to deliver the works.
This will include artwork on a link bridge connecting the new tower to Monash Children’s Hospital, as well on a new fence surrounding the tower on Dixon Street.
The next steps for the project will continue to pour concrete for each floor until the new tower has reached its maximum height.
