New acute and residential aged care facility delivered for Cohuna

Works are now complete on the new $41.10 million Cohuna acute and residential aged care facility, delivering modern, welcoming spaces designed around the needs of older Victorians in the Cohuna and Gunbower region.

Operated by Cohuna District Hospital, the brand-new facility offers 16 single aged care rooms with private ensuites, giving residents comfort and privacy, and eight acute beds, helping to meet a range of care needs closer to home.

Since works started in late 2024 more than 540 construction workers have contributed to the project.

Spaces that support connection

New flexible common areas have been designed to encourage social connection and everyday living.

These include a communal kitchen and a range of recreational spaces where residents can spend time with other residents, family, friends and carers.

Designed for complex care needs

The purpose-built facility includes features to support residents with complex health needs and reduced mobility, including people living with dementia. The design prioritises safety, accessibility and ease of movement, while creating a calm and homelike environment.

The completed works will help ensure residents receive high-quality care in a setting that feels safe, comfortable and welcoming.

What’s next?

Over the next few months, refurbishment of the existing Cohuna District Nursing Home will take place, repurposing this building to provide Cohuna District Hospital with improved administrative spaces and staff accommodation.

The Cohuna residential aged care project has been delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Cohuna District Hospital, ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects, and Fairbrother Construction.
