Community consultation underway for Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment

Please note: As of 1 February 2021, the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority (VHHSBA) became the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA).

Please note: This survey and applications to join the community consultative committee have now closed.

A community survey is now open for locals in the Ballarat and surrounding areas to share your views to help shape the $541.6 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment.

The redevelopment of Ballarat Base Hospital will provide additional capacity and services for the Ballarat community and surrounds. Once completed, the hospital will have capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients and 14,500 more inpatients, and provide capacity for an additional 4,000 surgeries each year.

About the redevelopment

The $541.6 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment will deliver a new emergency department, a new women and children’s hub, an intensive care unit, new theatre suite, an expanded critical care floor and at least an extra 100 inpatient and short stay beds.

The redevelopment will be completed over multiple stages. Construction of the central energy plant will commence in 2021 with the final stage of the redevelopment expected to be completed in 2027.

The project will also boost employment in the region, with more than 1,400 construction jobs expected to be created. Once fully operational, up to 1,000 extra positions will be created at the hospital.

The project is being delivered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority in partnership with Ballarat Health Services.
