Local Ballarat students look into the future

To celebrate works powering ahead on the $655 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment, we asked primary schools across Ballarat to get creative.

Students produced artworks exploring what a hospital of the future might look like.

The artworks took inspiration from technologies, colourful and homely amenities, entertainment and other things that would make hospitals less scary and more fun.

Fifteen futuristic artworks now brighten construction hoarding inside Ballarat Base Hospital’s main reception area, ready to delight patients, visitors and staff alike.

Once completed, the redeveloped Ballarat Base Hospital will have the capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients and an extra 14,500 inpatients per year.

Construction on the new hospital tower is on track for completion in 2027.
