Topping out reached for bigger, better Ballarat Base Hospital

The $655 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment is soaring high in the Ballarat skyline with topping out reached for the new hospital tower.

Over 1,130 workers have worked onsite to date, with 360 tonnes of steel and major concrete pours seeing the new tower’s structure come to life from the ground up.

Topping out after seven levels and a new rooftop helipad, the tower totals 44 metres in height.

Works will now focus on façade installation, installing the helipad, and internal fit out. The striking façade, which will total 1,100 panels, has already started to wrap around the tower. Fit out trades continue across multiple areas, and the site’s tower cranes are progressively coming down.

Once complete, Ballarat Base Hospital’s new hospital tower will provide a new main entrance and emergency department, capacity for 100 more inpatient and short stay beds, a new state of the art theatre suite, and a new expanded women’s and children’s hub.

Construction of the new tower is on track to be completed in 2027.
