Construction powering ahead

Works are now progressing on the rooftop helipad and internal fit-out, including wall partitions, plastering, flooring and services.

To date, 1,721 people have worked on site, including more than 400 locals. Together, they have worked more than 593,000 hours.

Farewell to the final two tower cranes

With most of the heavy lifting now complete, we bid farewell to the final two tower cranes that have stood high in the sky over the past year.

These cranes were named in honour of local healthcare champions – ‘Wasek’, a leading oncologist and researcher, and ‘Josie’, a retired Ballarat nurse of 35 years who continues to support patients through the creation of handmade surgical recovery bags.

Your bigger and better Ballarat Base Hospital

Once complete, Ballarat Base Hospital will have a new main entrance off Sturt Street, a new emergency department, a new theatre suite, a rooftop helipad, 100 more inpatient and short stay beds, and a new and expanded perinatal hub (pregancy to post-birth services).

The new emergency department will include a mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub to provide specialist care and support to patients, families and carers.

The redeveloped Ballarat Base Hospital will have the capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients and an extra 14,500 inpatients per year.

Construction is on track to be completed in 2027.
