Survey: Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment – family spaces
We’re seeking your ideas and priorities to help shape key family spaces in the redeveloped Ballarat Base Hospital.
27 September 2021 - 25 October 2021
About the survey
We want to hear from the wider community on some of the key family spaces that matter to you - from waiting rooms to gardens.
Have your say via our online survey to help us shape this significant investment for Ballarat and the surrounding communities, so we can deliver a redeveloped hospital that truly reflects the community it serves. The survey is available via the engage.vic website and closes at 9.00 am on 25 October 2021.
Your feedback will be shared with the project architect and will help shape the design of the redevelopment.
About the Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment
The Victorian Government is investing $541.6 million to redevelop and expand the Ballarat Base Hospital.
The redevelopment will deliver:
- a new emergency department
- a women and children’s hub
- state-of-the-art theatre suite
- 100 extra inpatient and short stay beds.
A new and expanded critical care floor will bring together operating theatres, procedure rooms, the intensive care unit, endoscopy suites and consulting rooms. This will deliver capacity for an extra 4,000 surgeries every year.
Once completed, the upgraded hospital will have the capacity to treat at least 18,000 more emergency patients and an extra 14,500 inpatients.
The redevelopment will be completed over multiple stages. Construction of the final stage is expected to be completed in 2027.

We held a survey in December 2020 seeking input from community on the healthcare services and community benefits that are important to them.
We're listening to the things that matter to the community, such as quality of services, car parking and making it easier to find your way around the hospital.
You can read a summary of the results from the recent survey here.
A community consultative committee, chaired by former Premier Hon. Steve Bracks, was formed in March 2021. The committee participated in facilitated workshops to explore ideas and priorities relating to key areas of the redevelopment.
Led by the project architect, Lyons, committee members shared their personal experiences navigating the current hospital. They raised a number of challenges and opportunities across topics including parking, access, design and environment.
The committee has recently been focusing their attention on helping to shape family spaces in the redevelopment, including the main entry, waiting rooms, outdoor areas and spaces for families within our hospital wards.
The survey is available via the engage.vic website and closes at 9.00 am on 25 October 2021.
Once the survey closes your feedback will be collated and shared with the project architect for consideration in the design of redevelopment.
The Victorian Health Building Authority will provide a report capturing the online survey results on this website in early 2022.
