Ballarat Health Services cardiac catheterisation laboratory

The $10 million Ballarat Health Services cardiac catheterisation laboratory project at Ballarat Base Hospital was completed in August 2017.

It is designed to support more people in western Victoria to access urgent heart assessment, treatment and care – closer to home. 

Cardiac catheterisation laboratories are used for lifesaving heart procedures such as stenting, angiography, inserting pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.

Healesville Hospital and Yarra Valley Health

The $8.8 million redevelopment and expansion of the Healesville Hospital and Yarra Valley Health included a new operating theatre, a redeveloped community health centre and the introduction of renal dialysis, resulting in a 30 per cent increase in services provided from the site.

The redevelopment consolidated existing and new services into a single integrated medical centre. A new entry and foyer between the two existing buildings allows for a single point of arrival and reception and brings hospital and community health services together under one roof.

Wonthaggi Hospital expansion

The $115 million Wonthaggi Hospital expansion project was completed in November 2022.

The expansion delivered three new operating theatres plus a procedure room. A new emergency department with 18 extra treatment spaces was added, along with a 32-bed inpatient ward. These new facilities will enable staff to treat 26,000 more emergency patients every year.

Goulburn Valley Health – Shepparton Hospital redevelopment

The Victorian Government has invested $229.3 million to redevelop Goulburn Valley Health - Shepparton Hospital.

The redevelopment has delivered new and expanded facilities, ensuring more families across the Goulburn Valley can access quality medical care and treatment closer to home.

The project has doubled the hospital’s emergency department capacity, providing 44 treatment points, including nine short stay beds for patients who need care for less than 24 hours.

Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative Medical and Regional Health Hub

The Victorian Government contributed $6 million to deliver the new Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative Medical and Regional Health Hub, improving access to high quality medical, health and community services in one convenient location.

The purpose-built facility was designed to create a culturally welcoming environment and provide a range of services for indigenous and non-indigenous people in Victoria’s greater western region.

Barwon Health surgery hub

The $6.38 million Barwon Health surgery hub at University Hospital in Geelong was completed in November 2018. 

The surgery hub expansion and refurbishment included new waiting and recovery areas designed to provide a more comfortable stay for patients. It also delivered more modern theatre facilities designed to support increased capacity and quality of care. 

The project was part of a $93.2 million upgrade to the University Hospital Geelong. It was designed to make the experience of having surgery less stressful and more welcoming.

Bendigo Hospital

Construction of the $630 million Bendigo Hospital was completed in June 2018. The hospital is the largest regional infrastructure development in Victoria’s history.

It is also the biggest ever investment in the region’s health care – and one that stands as a brilliant example of how technology, design and community consultation can together create a hospital ready for growth – now, and into the future.

Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital

The $200 million Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital, on the Sunshine Hospital site, opened in May 2019 to meet the demand for world-class maternity and paediatric services in Melbourne’s west.

Named after Victoria’s first female premier, the new hospital allows more women to give birth locally. It gives families better access to vital children’s services – closer to home.

Northern Hospital expansion - Stage 2

The Victorian Government invested $162.7 million to expand the Northern Hospital in Epping.   

The second stage of the Northern Hospital expansion delivered three new operating theatres, including one hybrid theatre. It also added 96 acute inpatient beds, a 28-bed pandemic ward, an 18-bed intensive care unit, and a 10-bed cardiac care unit.
